Your Questions

One of the easiest ways Dr. Jeffrey Lide can calm anxious patients is by listening to their concerns and answering any questions that have. Since you may wonder about our office policies, we’ve posted some of our most commonly asked questions below. If you don’t see the information you’re looking for, please call our Richardson dental office at 972-479-0477 so we can help you.

What is a teeth whitening system?

Teeth whitening or bleaching allows our patients to safely lighten the color of their teeth so their smile appears brighter. When you come to our practice for teeth whitening, we apply a specially formulated gel to the surface of your teeth. The gel forces oxygen through the enamel on your teeth, removing stains and brightening your teeth without damaging the sensitive tissues in your mouth.

How does your teeth whitening system compare to over-the-counter teeth whitening systems?

Over the counter products can be a good way to start. However they typically are only midly effective. These can be tried first and if desired results are not obtained, professional teeth whitening systems can be utilized. Call our Richardson dental office for questions

What kind of teeth whitening system does your practice offer?

Our teeth whitening system uses bleaching trays. This device is a clear mouthpiece molded to fit your mouth. Once we prescribe a bleaching gel, the tray will hold the solution on your teeth. Many people prefer to use bleaching trays since they are convenient and easy to use. Often, you will notice the bleaching effects immediately.

Before you can use trays, however, Dr. Lide will need to examine your mouth. Then, he will create the trays and apply a special pre-whitening gel to your teeth to prepare your teeth for the bleaching trays. Dr. Lide will provide instructions on when to use the trays and for how long.

Once my teeth are whitened, can the whitening be maintained?

Absolutely. Although the effects of the whitening are semi-permanent (only some of the color change is permanent), you can maintain the brilliance of your smile with touch-up teeth whitening sessions at home. When you come in for your initial whitening session, Dr. Lide will advise you how to maintain the brilliance of your smile.

What causes sensitive teeth?

If you have sensitive teeth, you may feel pain whenever you eat or drink something hot or cold. That’s because the dentin, the layer below the enamel on your teeth, is exposed. Dentin is composed of tiny tubes that extend to the nerves deep inside your tooth. If you drink something like coffee, the heat will travel through the dentin and your nerves will feel the extremity, causing pain.

Is there a treatment I can have to relieve the sensitivity?

Yes. There are many reasons why your teeth may be sensitive. Thankfully, Dr. Lide has a variety of services he can use to treat you. Since each mouth is unique, we will need to examine your mouth to recommend the best treatment for you.

I’m concerned about radiation from x-rays. Is there anything that can be done about that?

When you visit our office, we take a variety of measures to ensure your safety. One of these measures is finding technology that helps us to work safely and more efficiently. That’s why we use digital radiography to obtain x-rays of your teeth. With digital radiography, we can reduce your chances of radiation exposure by 90%. We can also receive instantaneous images of your teeth and their roots. If you have questions about our digital radiography, ask us during your appointment or call our Richardson dental office at 972-479-0477.

My spouse snores and keeps me up at night. I have heard a dentist might be able to prescribe an appliance that prevents snoring. Can you help?

We encourage your spouse to come in for a consultation with Dr. Lide to determine the cause. Sometimes people who snore may actually stop breathing for short periods during the night — a condition called sleep apnea. In other cases, snoring can be caused by enlarged anatomical structures within the mouth and throat. In the latter situation, we offer snore-guards, a small appliance that holds the mouth and throat open while you sleep and thus, prevents snoring. These devices are easy to use and we custom fit them to ensure your comfort.

Do you accept my insurance plan?

In this day and age, we know deciphering your insurance benefits can be confusing. That’s why we are happy to help you with insurance concerns.

We feel, however, that your insurance should never dictate the quality or timing of your treatment. If you have extensive or long term dental care, our office offers financial assistance through Care Credit, an outside financing company with competitive interest rates. If you have any questions, call us at 972-479-0477.
